We’ve arrived in Singapore for the Youth Olympic Games and as the events get underway you can feel the energy and excitement building! Singapore offers the perfect backdrop for the inaugural Youth Olympic Games and as we look forward to the next few weeks, we wanted to make sure you know what’s happening on the ground.
On Saturday August 14th we witnessed an enchanting Opening Ceremonies that captured the essence of why we have gathered in Singapore – to celebrate youth athletes from around the world and the achievements they have made in their sport.
As a longtime sponsor of the Olympic Movement we hope this first-time international event will help create a lasting impression and legacy for both youth sports worldwide and for Singapore’s culture.
These Games have given Visa the opportunity to work with three amazing youth athletes whom we’ve incorporated into our Go World themed campaign. We’ve brought new life to our Olympic-themed campaign, integrating the energy and passion of sport through the eyes of Jeffrey Lightfoot (15, football), Darren Choy (16, sailing) and Amanda Lim (17, swimming). These three youth Olympians have helped us capture the fans’ attention and imagination throughout Singapore as their images can be seen in the local malls, bus stations and stadiums as well as at City Hall and the Changi airport.
While Visa has dressed-up Singapore with our outdoor advertising, from one end to the other, we have also worked in other ways to help improve the fan experience during the Games. Similar to the Olympic Games, Visa will be the official payment service and the only card accepted at the Youth Olympic Games. And Visa has taken this opportunity to introduce a new product to ensure the fan’s experience at these Games is more convenient than ever before. For the first time, Visa has introduced an all-in-one Prepaid card – still offering an easy and convenient way to pay – but adding the ability to pay for transit to and from events and, most notably, the card acts as the ticket-of-entry into the Opening and Closing Ceremonies. All three functions on one card!
The new Visa Prepaid card is not only an example of Visa’s ability to deliver innovative products, but a testament to how leveraging our strategic partnerships can further enhance the fan and consumer experience.
As we watched the Opening Ceremonies on August 14th, it was apparent that the tens of thousands of fans who have gathered from around the world to support these young athletes have the same understanding as Visa does about sports – that sports can unite the world. We are proud to share in this enthusiasm and to help create a memorable fan experience. We are looking forward to seeing all of the youth athletes from around the world compete over the next few days and weeks under the umbrella of a peaceful competition.
